The Way of Escape

Let me begin by apologizing for not posting anything yesterday.  I am truly sorry and appreciate each of you viewing my blog regularly and hope you will continue to do so.

I was talking with one of my friends the other day about how some people view the Old Testament of scripture as unimportant or non-relevant.  Today as I was reading, I noticed an interesting passage that talks specifically about the Old Testament.  1 Corinthians 10:10-13 tells us that we should pay close attention to the Old Testament because the stories are examples for us to live by.  They were written to help us live as people who are pursuing God and his ways.  One verse says, “Therefore let him who thinks he stands to take heed lest he fall”.

You see at the core of every current situation we deal with in today’s world (EVERY SITUATION),  are core principles that are discussed in the Old Testament.  We can look at examples and see the results of those decisions and learn from them so we do not make the same mistakes again.  The core principles of every situation are outlined there and we can use those examples to help us not have to learn what we should do the hard way.  The neatest thing about this passage is just when it finishes telling us to take careful notice of the examples in the Old Testament so we can make the right decisions in our lives today, it tells us that we really can make the right decisions.

We find that when we step back and view the entire scope of our lives and how the same decisions have played out in history that the temptations (choices) of our lives are the same choices others through history have had to make.  We see that we cannot sit back and feel sorry for ourselves, and we also see that in each decision we are faced with God giving us a way of escape.  In every decision there is a choice that is the right choice, and if we make that right choice, we can take the path of escape from so much of life’s problems and hurts.  Not all of them, things still happen in life to everyone, but we can relieve ourselves of so many hurts and pains, by taking the way of escape, by viewing the examples found in the Old Testament and learning what is the right decision.

The entire Bible is a complete work to be viewed as a whole.  There is truth to be learned from all of it, and it is like any other story that is written, all of it is written for a reason.  This one just so happens to be a story from God, about how God’s plan and our lives come together.
