Reckless Words

Proverbs 12:18 "Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing."

This is a verse I noticed today that speaks so much truth.  We can all recall times in our lives that someone said something to us that hurt.  Whether it was true or not it stings deep in our souls and it is difficult to let it go.  This happens everyday, we take for-granted the significance of our words on other people and end up hurting them.  Our words are powerful and even though we sometimes forget it, the words we speak are heard by others and other people take them seriously.

The amazing thing about our words is that they can also "bring healing" as the verse says.  I have had a few different times in my life that I have experience the truth of this verse because of things peopel have spoken to me.  In the past few years I have had a couple of terrible bosses and a couple of great bosses.  The difference in the way these bosses speak taught me the truth of this passage.  Some people choose to encourage and empower others, while other people choose to attack and beat people down.

Our words send a message to others, but which message?  Do our words pierce others like a sword, are our words an attack on those arounds us?  Or are our words wise, do our words bring healing to others, do our words make others feel better in there soul, feel better about who they are?

That is very good and very true. I can remember a few harsh words that were spoken to me from all the way back in elementary school. I can also remember some positive words from quite a while back. You never know if your words are going to be the ones that someone else remembers for a lifetime.
