Discipleship
This blog is not going to consist of a lesson or devotional from me to you that will challenge your or make you think, but a few questions. I would greatly appreciate your response since as you think and ponder you will help me as I think, ponder, and pray over these particular questions. As a christian we are called by scripture in multiple places to be disciple makers. The most famous wording, “Make disciples of all nations in the name of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy spirit…” in Matthew 28.
If we agree that discipleship is some sort of walking through life with another, teaching them and showing them essential truths about the christian faith and how to live out the christian faith. What then are the essential things that you would impart on another? If you had a few weeks to meet with someone else a half a dozen to a dozen times what would you share with that person? How would you share it? What would you show them and take them to see?
Any of your thoughts on this matter would be greatly appreciated, please do not be afraid to share your thoughts, to share you insight, to share you heart. I am not sure there is a set number “correct” things, and I would appreciate your thoughts.

I’ll perhaps start the ball rolling which might prove to be a bit more provocative than intended, as I’m going to say that firstly I believe (as a woman) that Jesus intended for it to be the MEN who did this more than women perhaps (unless the latter are only going to ‘teach’ other women), and as such men are the ones who should be taking the time to truly learn the ‘skills’ of this task from the One who set it!! Sadly, however, what I see a lot of in my own area and hear of elsewhere is that for some reason it appears to be many women who are indeed undertaking the role much more often. I feel this is a bit of a precarious situation given Pauls exhortation that women shouldn’t teach men, and those who state that was only for “that” time or society are totally mistaken – if that statement was, then all of Paul’s statements were – he didn’t clarify on that particular one where he did others. But I digress.
IF I felt the Lord was leading me to truly assist in someone making their commitment to Him, I think I would firstly point out that when God created the world it was perfect and good until sin entered it which in turn caused death. God then demonstrated that sin had a price by shedding the first blood as payment for it, thus setting the scene for the Jewish sacrificial system. Jesus however came as a single once and for ever sacrifice because man could never provide an appropriate recompense for his sin, and because God still requires a price to be paid, only those of us who accept Jesus as having paid it on our behalf are acceptable to Him. Rather than asking someone to “pray a sinner’s prayer” I’d ask them to read scripture until the Holy SPirit revealed their sinful state to them and brought them to repentance as I feel that provides a much more meaningful act. I would keep that person in prayer, but also check with them as I felt led to – nothing worse sometimes than trying to force God’s Hand before He’s actually acted, unless He is the motivator to do so.

i think i like the way you phrased “walking through life with another” b/c i think that discipleship is a long term commitment.
I am assuming that you are talking about guiding a fellow believer in their walk with Christ, not so much leading them to a relationship with Christ.
Some things that I feel are essetial:
1. Apart from Christ I am nothing.
2. Surrender, surrender, surrender…its not Your life. He can handle it.
3. Know Him…can only be done through His Word.
4. Enjoy Him and you will enjoy life.
Is that too simple? It’s 11:56pm. I’m tired. Maybe shallow too 😉

Russo, that is not too simple, in my opinion simple is good, we try to make it to hard most of the time. I like what you share and apprecaite you sharing it.
